Ice cream cones were served at 4 p.m., each and every picnic. However, there was a period between using blocks of ice and getting refrigerator-freezers as cooling devices at the farm. During this time, ice cream came packed in dry ice.
As young teenagers (I don’t remember my accomplices), we got playing with the dry ice.
It steamed in warm air. It made water boil in a dipper. Water turned into a roiling cloud.
A senior relative came by and spoiled our experiments: “Get out of here!” And we did.
My fondest memory was the Family Reunion on the Labour Day Monday. I cannot tell you how much that I looked forward to it every year.
